Esther's Preparation for the King (4-Part Plan)

Updated: Jul 10, 2023

Preparation #1: Self Care

Now when the turn of each young lady came to go in to King Ahasuerus, after the end of her twelve months under the regulations for the women— for the days of their beautification were completed as follows: six months with oil of myrrh and six months with spices and the cosmetics for women— the young lady would go in to the king in this way: anything that she desired was given her to take with her from the harem to the king’s palace. -Esther 2:12-13

Did you know that it took Esther a full 12 months to improve her external appearance for the King?

This type of external preparation was not something that was taken lightly in biblical days because the women understood its importance. Men are extremely visual and the best looking woman usually wins the man.

Esther was already beautiful, but she still had to put in a year’s worth of work to ensure she put herself in the best position to be chosen by the King. As a result of her hard work, she was chosen to be Queen.

If you can imagine, Esther likely had various skin and hair treatments with oil of myrrh, spices as fragrances to make herself smell appealing and cosmetics to make her face look even more beautiful.

As a single woman, start now in taking care of your physical body and your external appearance on a regular basis just as Esther did. Set aside time to make sure you are taking proper care of yourself as a woman of God.

Preparation #2: Make-up

Now when the turn of each young lady came to go in to King Ahasuerus, after the end of her twelve months under the regulations for the women— for the days of their beautification were completed as follows: six months with oil of myrrh and six months with spices and the cosmetics for women— the young lady would go in to the king in this way: anything that she desired was given her to take with her from the harem to the king’s palace. -Esther 2:12-13

Did you know that Esther used cosmetics as a part of her preparation for the King?

Some women underestimate the power of wearing cosmetics and the allure it can have to a man. You are a beautiful piece of artwork and cosmetics are your frame. Artwork always looks better when it’s framed.

You don’t have to know how to contour or do a smokey eye in order to look good in makeup. Simply wearing eyeliner and lipstick can enhance your appearance. Some women naturally look great without cosmetics, but when they wear it they look amazing!

Cosmetics can give a woman more self-confidence and command respect. In contrast, if you become dependent on cosmetics to look good, not wearing it can make you feel less confident. You need to be comfortable in your own skin whether you’re wearing cosmetics or not. Including cosmetics in your routine of beautification can give you a great advantage in not being overlooked by a man.

Preparation #3: Apparel

Now when the turn of each young lady came to go in to King Ahasuerus, after the end of her twelve months under the regulations for the women— for the days of their beautification were completed as follows: six months with oil of myrrh and six months with spices and the cosmetics for women— the young lady would go in to the king in this way: anything that she desired was given her to take with her from the harem to the king’s palace. -Esther 2:12-13

Did you know that your clothing choices can be used to either attract or repel men?

Many Christian women underestimate the importance of what they’re wearing. Your choice of clothing can make you look older, younger, attractive or unattractive. A lot of Christian women err on the side of caution and opt for ultra conservative looks. They don’t always choose clothing that flatters their body type or keep up with the latest styles and trends.

Consider putting more time and attention into the way you dress by keeping up with the latest fashion trends so you can come across as stylish, classy, tasteful and look more appealing.

Your wardrobe choices can either make you stand out or look invisible to a man.

Developing a style that is up to date and attractive can put you in a better position to be noticed by your future husband. You will also feel more confident and begin to carry yourself in a way that is naturally attractive to men.

Preparation #4: Exercise/Eat Right

Did you know your body type is an extremely important factor in your attractiveness to a man?

Women put so much effort into their clothes, hair and makeup, they often neglect the most challenging part of looking good, working out!

Neglecting your physical body could put you at a huge disadvantage to be overlooked by the opposite sex.

Men naturally desire women with physically attractive bodies so don’t give a man any excuse to pass over you by being overweight or underweight.

Start disciplining yourself to begin a regular exercise program. If you’re overweight make plans to lose it and if you’re underweight make plans to gain it. If you’re a balanced weight, make plans to tone up. While you’re working out, you should change your diet to eat more healthy, balanced meals and adjust your food choices based on your specific goals to maintain your results.

If you begin working out, you will completely transform your life. Endorphins released during exercise makes you feel better physically and mentally. You will gain confidence, look better and put yourself in a better position to attract your future husband. Exercise can also make you look younger!

Your body is your temple, so you should do your best to take care of it in every area.
